About Me

A woman with blonde hair wearing a white sleeveless top and white trousers, smiling outdoors in front of a lush green wall with two tulips. She has earrings, a necklace, and a watch.

I’m MaKaela Carter and the founder of The Divorce Team Method™. Like many women starting over later in life, I never expected divorce to become part of my story.

After a 28-year marriage, my divorce was resolved in approximately three hours of mediation. I believed that having an attorney meant I had the professional support I needed. What I didn’t understand was that an attorney could be the foundation of my divorce team—but shouldn’t be the entire team.

I didn’t know which questions to ask about my home, retirement, taxes, or what my settlement would actually mean for my future. I made significant decisions without fully understanding their long-term financial impact. Those lessons became the foundation of The Divorce Team Method™.

As a global recruiter by profession, I have spent my career identifying the right people, asking meaningful questions, and building teams around complex needs. Today, I apply that same team-building approach to helping women—especially women navigating divorce later in life—slow down, identify potential blind spots, and prepare more thoughtfully for conversations with qualified professionals.

Why I created The Divorce Team Method™

I created this method because I kept meeting women who felt overwhelmed and underprepared. My role is not to tell women whether to divorce or what decisions to make. I help them slow down, organize their concerns, identify unanswered questions, and prepare to work with the qualified professionals they may need.

Today, I’m rebuilding my own life while using what I learned to help other women feel less alone and better prepared than I did.

I am not an attorney, financial advisor, tax professional, or therapist. I don’t tell women what decisions to make. I provide education, preparation, organizational support, and questions drawn from personal experience so they can build the right professional team and make more informed decisions.

My own experience led me to create The Divorce Team Method™ with women in mind—particularly those who may not have managed every part of the family finances. But the need to slow down, ask better questions and build the right professional team is not limited by gender. Today, I welcome anyone who connects with this approach and wants to feel better prepared before making life-changing divorce decisions.

I live in the Kansas City area and am a mother of two grown children. My Christian faith, commitment to serving others, and belief that our hardest experiences can become a way to help someone else are central to why I created this work.
